개천절(Gaecheonjeol 또는 National Foundation Day)은 대한민국의 국경일의 하나로, 날짜는 양력 10월 3일입니다. 단군왕검이 고조선을 세운 것을 기념하는 날입니다. 하늘을 열었다는 ‘개천’이란 말은 환웅이 하늘에서 백두산 아래로 내려온 것, 혹은 기원전 2333년에 단군이 고조선을 처음 건국한 것을 의미합니다. 이 날에는 대한민국의 국기인 태극기를 게양합니다.

Gaecheonjeol (or National Foundation Day) is one of the national holidays of the Republic of Korea, and the date is October 3 in the Gregorian calendar. It is a day to commemorate the establishment of Gojoseon by Dangun Wanggeom. The word ‘gaecheon’, which is said to have opened the sky, means Hwanung descending from the sky to the bottom of Mt. Baekdu, or Dangun’s first founding of Gojoseon in 2333 BC. On this day, the flag of the Republic of Korea, the Taegeukgi, is raised.
