'노다지'는 원하던 광물이 막 쏟아져 나오는 광맥, 또는 그 광물을 뜻합니다. 보통은 금을 의미합니다.
구한말 당시 한국을 다녀간 한 외국인인 루벤초프가 그의 탐험기에서, "이 나라는 금이 노출되어도 캐지 않는 나라이며, 특히 북방 연해는 금이 쌓여있다"라고 썼습니다.‘은자의 나라(Nation Hermit)’ 는 ‘황금의 나라(Nation of Gold)’로 이미지가 바꾸기 시작했습니다. 여러 나라들에서 눈독을 들였던 한국의 산야에 깔린 광맥은 외국인들에 의해 개발되고, 그래서 한국의 금덩이는 외국으로 흘러나가게 되었습니다. 그와 같이 금광에서 외국으로 흘러나가는 상자에 쓰인 글씨가 "NO TOUCH"(노 터치: 손대지 마시오)라는 것이었습니다. 이 ‘노터치’가 사람들의 입에서 입으로 옮아가는 사이 와전되어, 드디어는 지금의 ‘노다지’가 되었다는 것입니다.
노다지 캐려는 사람이, 다른 데 정신은 없고 오직 한 군데에만 신경을 쓴 데서 이 ‘노다지’는 ‘늘’ 혹은 ‘언제나’와 같은 뜻으로도 쓰입니다.

'노다지(nodaji)' refers to a vein or a mineral that just pours out of the desired mineral. It is usually said to mean gold.
Rubentsov, a foreigner who visited Korea during the Korean Empire, wrote in his expedition, "This is a country where gold is not mined even if it is exposed, and the northern coast is particularly rich in gold." 'Nation Hermit' began to change its image to 'Nation of Gold'. The ore veins in Korea's mountains and fields, which many countries have paid attention to, are being developed by foreigners, and so Korean gold nuggets flowed abroad. The writing on the box that flowed out of the gold mine like that was "NO TOUCH". It is said that this ‘노다지'was misrepresented as it went from mouth to mouth, and eventually became the ‘노다지' it is today.
This '노다지' is also used in the same sense as 'always' or 'all the time' because a person who seeks bonanza has no mind in other places and only pays attention to one place.
