말도 많고 탈도 많았던 문재인 대통령의 도쿄올림픽 계기 일본 방문은 결국 성사되지 못했다. 박수현 청와대 국민소통수석은 19일 오후 브리핑을 통해 “상당한 이해의 접근은 있었지만, 정상회담의 성과로 삼기에는 여전히 미흡했다”면서 문 대통령이 도쿄 올림픽 기간 일본을 방문하지 않기로 했다고 밝혔다.
도쿄 올림픽은 한·일 정상이 자연스럽게 만나 양국 간 갈등 현안을 풀기 위한 돌파구를 마련하는 계기가 될 것이라는 기대를 모았지만, 청와대의 이날 결정으로 결국 정상회담는 없는 것으로 되었다. 이로써 문재인 정부 내에 최악의 상태에 빠진 한·일 관계를 개선할 단초를 찾기는 쉽지 않을 전망이다. 오히려 문 대통령 방일 문제를 둘러싼 그동안의 한·일 간 기싸움의 여파로 양국 관계가 더 어려워질 것으로 보인다.

Rather, it is expected that relations between the two countries will become more difficult in the aftermath of the fight between Korea and Japan over the issue of President Moon's visit to Japan.
