8월 15일은 광복절입니다.

8월 15일, ‘광복절’은 한국이 일본으로부터 자유와 주권을 되찾을 것을 기념하는 날입니다.
대한민국에서는 이를 국경일로 정하고 매년 양력 8월 15일에 기념하고 있습니다.
‘광복’에서 ‘광’은 빛을 의미합니다. ‘복’은 되찾았다는 의미입니다. 즉, 영예롭게 자유와 주권을 되찾았다는 의미입니다. 1945년이 광복절의 원년입니다.
1910년에 일본은 한국이 약해진 사이에 강제로 한국을 점령하였습니다. 2차세계대전이 연합군의 승리로 끝나고 일본이 항복하면서 그 해, 1945년 8월 15일에 한국은 일본으로부터 자유와 주권을 되찾았습니다.
그 동안의 36년 동안 한국 사람들이 겪은 엄청난 고통은 상상을 초월하는 것이었습니다. 또한 많은 한국 사람들은 일본과 맞서 총을 들고 싸웠습니다.

‘광복절’ (liberation day) on August 15 is a day to celebrate Korea's recovery of freedom and sovereignty from Japan. Korea has designated it as a national holiday and celebrates it every year on August 15th of the Gregorian calendar.
In ‘광복절’, ‘광’ means light, and ‘복’ means that it is recovered. In other words, it means that freedom and sovereignty have been restored with honor. 1945 is the first year of ‘광복절’.

The tremendous suffering that Koreans have suffered over the past 36 years has been beyond imagination. Also, many Koreans fought against Japan with guns.
